Web Hosting Options-
One of the most important decisions for a website is selecting your
web hosting service provider. Even the best of websites will not run
properly and be user friendly if it is hosted on a poor web hosting
company. A good web hosting service provider is one that provides
enough disk space, a comfortable bandwidth speed, sophisticated
supporting features and customer service channels, and scores high
on reliability. When choosing a web hosting provider remember that
price isn't everything! Keep in mind the goals of your website when
considering all the sections below and make an informed decision on
your web hosting.
Reliability:
Creating an awesome website and then have the site unavailable to
customers because your hosting provider is down is every webmasters
worse nightmare! No one builds websites to have them 'not
available'. A website that is frequently down because of a poor
hosting company loses not only its existing clients, but also
potential customers and business associates. Do your homework and
make sure the web hosting provider you are considering is reliable
and has a good "uptime" record. Look for feedback from their
existing customers about the service and dependability of the
service provider.
Space:
Unless you are creating a small website with little or no graphics, space will be an important consideration in choosing a web host provider. A hosting provider who is unable to provide the required space, or add to the existing space in future, will only add to your woes. Go for competent providers who can promptly offer you expandable disk space.
Bandwidth:
Bandwidth is critical for quick and efficient data transfer from your website to users when they surf through your web pages. A slow bandwidth is one of the quickest ways to lose visitors to your website. No one likes go to a web page that is slow loading and in the modern age of faster and faster connection speeds, website visitors have little or no patience for a slow bandwidth. When looking for bandwidth options select a bandwidth with a minimum of three gigabytes a month. To fully understand bandwidth and what it is read our "bandwidth" section.
Extra Features:
Look at your website's purpose and decide if you will need any extra features from your web hosting. Depending on how your web pages are going to be uploaded, how often and by who, you will need to consider things like Frontpage extensions and FTP programs. If you built your site using server scripting, the host should be able to support the programming language. Check on the Email services offered by the web host, including POP3 and IMAP4 features, and the number of email addresses they give you with a particular web hosting plan. Inquire if they have an inbuilt auto responder facility, along with an infallible email hosting service that offers more than mere webmail.
Be sure and check on Customer support from your web host. Does it offer a 24/7 support system? Do they have efficient contact modes including email, telephone and chat services? What is their query resolution time? Are there any additional charges for offering technical assistance and support to clients? |
