Link Exchange-
When browsing through websites you may come across pages for a link
exchange. Sometimes webmaster will state that will give you a free
link on their website for a reciprocal link on your website. One way
links are basically the opposite of reciprocal links. One way links
point one way, with no return link back. The best websites to get
links from are those with a high PageRank, and/or are of a similar
topic to yours, and with few outbound links on the page. However,
this is more difficult than it may sound. High PageRank sites
typically don't exchange links; they don't need to.
Link exchanges can help everyone with
PageRank.
The name PageRank is a trademark of Google. The PageRank process is
a patented process and the patent is held by Stanford University.
Google has exclusive rights to the use of the patent. Google
describes PageRank like this: "PageRank relies on the uniquely
democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an
indicator of an individual page's value. In essence, Google
interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for
page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or
links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the
vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves "important" weigh more
heavily and help to make other pages "important".
In other words, a PageRank results from a "ballot" among all the
other pages on the World Wide Web about how important a page is. A
hyperlink to a page counts as a vote of support. The PageRank of a
page is defined recursively and depends on the number and PageRank
metric of all pages that link to it ("incoming links"). A page that
is linked to by many pages with high PageRank receives a high rank
itself. If there are no links to a web page there is no support for
that page.
Link exchange can be a good way to get some free or inexpensive
links to your website and help improve your website traffic, but
there can also be some drawbacks you should watch out for. One
problem with link exchange is that two websites are trading links
and both are usually putting that link on a link pages. Link pages
do not carry very much weight to Google or other search engines.
They see these links for what they are; a cheap attempt to gain
links from someone who may or may not have even been to your
website. Often times the link exchange page is not even directly
connected to the website home page, and if it isn't linked well then
the search engines may never even see these links. That is why we at
Website Creations offer affordable advertising in lieu of a link
exchange. Links placed off another websites link pages are far
more valuable in improving your website traffic, which will
ultimately improve your website revenue.
Worse than search engines not finding or ignoring your link
exchanges is the risk of getting labeled a bad website by exchanging
a link with a website that has been blacklisted by Google or other
search engines. Here is what Google has to say about linking:Your
site's ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis
of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and
relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to
you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and
can indicate its quality and popularity. However, some webmasters
engage in link exchange schemes and build partner pages exclusively
for the sake of cross-linking, disregarding the quality of the
links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their
sites. This is in violation of Google's
Webmaster Guidelines and can negatively impact your site's
ranking in search results. Examples of link schemes can include:
- Links intended to manipulate PageRank
- Links to web spammers or bad neighborhoods on the web
- Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging
("Link to me and I'll link to you.")
-
Buying or selling links that pass PageRank
The best way to get other sites to create relevant links to yours
is to create unique, relevant content that can quickly gain
popularity in the Internet community. The more useful content you
have, the greater the chances someone else will find that content
valuable to their readers and link to it. Before making any single
decision, you should ask yourself the question: Is this going to be
beneficial for my page's visitors?
It is not only the number of links you have pointing to your site
that matters, but also the quality and relevance of those links.
Creating good content pays off: Links are usually editorial votes
given by choice, and the buzzing blogger community can be an
excellent place to generate interest.
If you are still interested in finding reciprocal link partners you
can proactively surf the Web searching for websites to exchange
links with. This is not the most practical or efficient method, so
isn't really recommended. But if you really want to try this method,
the easiest way to find link exchange partners is to approach all
the sites that link to the competition. And you can find out who
they are simply by going to a search engine and entering the
following query into the search box:
link:www.yourcompetitorswebsite.com The search engines will
return a list of websites that link to your competitor's site. All
you have to do is contact each site and either ask them to link to
your site or, if they require a link back, a link exchange.
Another option is install a link exchange script on your site and
wait for potential link exchange partners to submit their link
exchange requests. it could be slow going but it will allow you to
screen your link exchange websites and is less risky than joining a
link exchange group. |
