Create a Contact Form-
A
contact
form is a simple email form you can add to your website to make
it easy for your website visitors to email you. Contact forms can
have as many lines of information as you like, but it is usually
best to keep the form as simple as possible. Contact forms are
fairly simple to create, but if you have problems you can always use
an email form agency. There are a number of free sites on the web
including EmailMeForm.
Before you get started on your contact form, you need to take a
moment and think about why visitors may be contacting you, and what
information you will want from them. You will definitely want their
email address, so you can respond to the email. You will also want
to know their name and what type of questions they have. You
will also want a larger text box so people can write any additional
information. People often include a drop down menu for the
"reason for contact" line, especially if you have several options
like advertising, sales, returns, or general question. Once you know
which buttons you want to include, you are ready to start creating a
personalized website email form.
In FrontPage or Expressions, you will begin by opeing the toolbox
task pane (found in task panes) Click on the "Form" line and drag it
over to your webpage. Next add a table into that form area. The
table can be any width but 400-600 pixels is a good size. You will
want 2 columns and as many rows as you have input lines (plus an
extra line for the submit button) So if your email is going to have
5 lines make the table have 6 rows.
On the left columns write your descriptive wording for each line in
the email. Click and drag the input text button from the form
controls section into the 2nd column in the top row. Repeat this for
any line that will have a one line answer. For additional
information you need to click and drag the text area button into
that line. You can stretch the box the same way you enlarge a
picture. On the bottom row you will want to click and drag the input
(submit) button. To give an option you will want to create two or
more options then click and drag the input check box beside each
option. if you want a checkbox with multiple options click and drag
the input checkbox button over. You can adjust the length of each
box to make the email form look more appealing.
Next go through one by one and right click each text area. Select
Form Field Properties and change the Name Field Property to a single
word that will describe to you what that lline is about. This is
what you will see when you receive the email so you will want to
know what the line is telling you. Next right click on the form and
click on form properties. Click the top button that says Send To
(requires FrontPage Extensions) write in _private/results.txt on the
top line and the email address you want the website sent to on the
second line. Now take a minute and make sure you have a _private
folder on your site, and if you don't then create it. Then go to
notebook and open it, click save as and save the file as results.txt
and save it into the _private folder. Now go back and right click on
the form and click the options button at the bottom.
The options box should have this information:

Next click on email results tab, and make sure your email address is
listed in the box. If you want to set up a
confirmation page you can click that tab and add the url. Now
you are ready to publish the form. be sure and test it, making any
adjustments you need to make it work.
