Revenue Ads-
Adding ads to your website or blog allows you to make make money
from your website. People looking to sell items or services need
someone to publish an ad or link to their website. You can become an
Ad publisher and publish their ads on your website, much like a
newspaper or magazine sells ad space. When you are looking for
website ad revenue, keep your eye out for companies looking for
publishers. The people placing the ads are called advertisers, and
they are always on the lookout for publishers to publish their ads
on websites.
There are several different types of ad programs
to choose from. You will probably want to combine several different
ad groups to best meet your needs. When placing your ads try to make
them blend in to your site. This way, they can become an asset to
your readers and provide them links they may be interested in. There
is nothing worse than going to a site with annoying pop ups and more
ads than content.
Be sure and read the fine print before you join an advertising site.
Places like Comission Junction will actually charge you money if you
don't make enough on the ads you run. If you haven't sold enough ad
traffic, they will also suspend your account after 6 months. With
Google Adsense you need to make at least $100 before they will send
a payment. It took me three months before I made enough to get my
first payment, but since then, my ad sales have been growing
steadily. The extra money is a good way to buy advertising or pay
for software to improve websites, along with helping the family
budget. Google and most other online Advertising Companies will send
you a 1098 tax form at the end of the year and you will be
responsible for any taxes owed on your earnings.
Website Traffic:
No visitors, no money. To have people clicking on your banner ads
and taking up the offers given there, you need to work on improving
the site traffic going through your website. There's no substitute
for this. No amount of fine-tuning of your advertisements is going
to help you if you have only a few visitors going to your website
each day. Remember that not every visitor is going to click on your
banner ad or link ad (When was the last time you clicked on a banner
on another site?) So to earn any income at all, you must generate
enough traffic.
Types of Ads:
There are several different types of ad campaigns to choose from. A
pay per click ad, pays the publisher (you) a few cents every time
someone clicks on the ad.
Google AdSense is probably the most recognized ad of this type. To
join you need to
go here and set up an account. AdSense for content automatically
crawls the content of your pages and delivers text and image ads
that are relevant to your audience and your site content. You can
also add a Google search box the same way. The ad you see to the
right is a Google Adsense Ad.
Amazon has a marketing program too called "Amazon Associates". With
Amazon you are paid a percentage between 4-15% of all sales that are
generated from your site. They offer a wide variety ways to
advertise on your site, including page links, product banners,
widgets and their aStore. The astore allows you to feature any
Amazon products in a self-contained
online
store embedded directly within your web page.
You can also set up your own advertising for your website. Website
Creations offers opportunities for Webmasters to purchase
quality banner and text link ads on our
websites. This is a great deal for people trying to improve their
website traffic because it provides a quality link on one of the
website's main pages, but doesn't cost an arm or a leg.
There are also numerous affiliate programs like yahoo's
affiliate sales. Some programs. like
Mr. Rebates offer
a referral program for bringing business their way. You can earn 20%
of your referred friend's cash-back rebates on every purchase they
make through Mr. Rebates (at no cost to them). You get that extra
20% for every purchase your referred friend makes. Keep your eyes
open when you visit sites and check to see if they offer an
affiliate program.
Ad Placement:
You want to place your ads high enough on your
page for readers to easily see them. In newspaper terms this area is
called "above the fold". It refers to newspapers when they are
folded in stands, above the fold being the top half of the paper
that is seen first. As you can see I mix and match my ads and try to
spread them around without overwhelming the reader. Amazon has some
really nice looking widgets that you can add to your site.
All the ads only pay you a small amount for each
click so don't plan on getting rich any time soon. Many websites use
the ads to defray any costs they have for their website, including
the web hosting and advertising. My experience is that text links
that are part of the content of your site will generally do better
than banners or other text links. Remember it's you website, so pick
the ads that work best for you. |
