RSS Feeds-
Understanding RSS Feeds:
RSS
is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated
works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a
standardized format. RSS stands for "rich site summary". A RSS feed
is a XML file used to describe the contents on your website or blog.
RSS feeds solve a problem for people who regularly use the web. It
allows them to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content
from your website without having to continually check for updates.
RSS feeds also ensure their privacy, by not requiring website
visitors to join a website's email newsletter in order to get
updates. People using Mozilla can click on subscribe in their
bookmarks to automatically have the RSS feed added to their
bookmarks. As the feed is updated you will see new titles of entries
in the blog or website. RSS feeds can also be added to homepages,
such as "My Yahoo". Another popular way to use feeds is to subscribe
to a Read Feeder that will send you feeds you sign up for or the top
feeds in different categories.
As the world wide web grows RSS feeds helps viewers spend less time
searching for current information and more time enjoying their
favorite subjects. RSS feeds are supplied by uploaded files, saved
in an XML format. These files can contain images, text or audio. The
uploaded material is then syndicated, or sent out to subscribers in
real time
RSS Feed Benefits:
Feeds make it possible for site content to be packaged into
"widgets," "gadgets," mobile devices, and other bite-sized
technologies that make it possible to display blogs, podcasts, and
major news, sports, weather, or whatever headlines just about
anywhere. The RSS feed is beneficial to the website and to the
individuals syndicating material, as it provides an active method of
outreach. Otherwise, it’s a matter of waiting for internet users to
check back in for updates at random, and this can be frustrating and
counterproductive if the material is not updated when the individual
revisits a site. RSS feeds are beneficial for both the website and
the subscribers. The website can actively reach out to the readers,
and readers can save time since they won’t need to check back for
updates because all updates are sent via the RSS feed as soon as
they become available. RSS feeds are a win-win for everyone
involved.
Airing Your RSS Feed:
An RSS feed is different from an e-mail subscription because the
information is not sent to an e-mail inbox; it’s sent to a distinct
location (the RSS aggregator), which is convenient for internet
users who don’t want to stuff their e-mail accounts with extraneous
messages. Submit your RSS feeds to aggregator sites like
