PageRanking-
The name PageRank is a trademark of Google. The PageRank process is
a patented process and the patent is held by Stanford University.
Google has exclusive rights to the use of the patent. Google
describes PageRank like this: "PageRank reflects our view of the
importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million
variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important
pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the
top of the search results".
Important, high-quality sites receive a higher PageRank, which
Google remembers each time it conducts a search. Of course,
important pages mean nothing to you if they don’t match your query.
So, Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching
techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to
your search. Google goes far beyond the number of times a term
appears on a page and examines all aspects of the page’s content
(and the content of the pages linking to it) to determine if it’s a
good match for your query.’
Improving PageRank:
Google is changing the way they rank websites in an effort to ban
sites from profiting by mass unvalued linking schemes. Instead of
focusing on backlinks, Google has hinted other factors, such as
websites loading speed and social bookmarks, will be combined with
content quality. Below are some basic ways to improve your page rank
with Google:
One of the ways to improve your page ranking, which in turn
improves your search engine results, is to exchange links with as
many websites as possible that have similar themes and content as
yours. The higher rank of the website who links to your website, the
more points you receive. Many web rings have been started with this
in mind. It can take three months or more for Google to rank
websites, and they are updated every 3-6 months after that. So give
it a little time, and soon you will see your page rank improve.
Another way
to improve your PageRank is your Title Tag. Google seems to give
weight to the title of your page. By title, I mean the text that is
sandwiched between the HTML <TITLE> tags in the <HEAD> section of
your web page. If you use a Web editor that automatically inserts a
title like "New Page", remember to change it to some meaningful text
with your keywords inside to reap the benefit of this feature.
The Third way to help improve your ranking is to have content laden
pages. It has often been observed that Google considers
keyword density
a large factor in ranking pages in search engine results, more so
than many other search engines. Keywords are words that the user
searches for when using the search engine. Generally speaking,
keyword density is the ratio of the word that is being searched for
(the keyword) against the total number of words appearing on your
web page.
An easy way to to check on page ranks is to add the Google toolbar
to your browser. You can download it
here and then click on the PageRank tool
under tools in the toolbar options. |
