FrontPage & Expressions
Software-
Microsoft FrontPage is an excellent, but severely underrated HTML
editor. It has been greatly improved and is currently called
Expressions. With Microsoft Expressions anyone can build and publish
a website from their own computer with no html or coding experience.
Expressions comes as part of the package when you get Microsoft
Office, but most people don't realize what a great web building tool
they have on their computer. This website, for instance was created
and published using Microsoft Expressions! Many people view
FrontPage as a beginners tool. That's a completely incorrect view.
While FrontPage is definitely "beginner friendly" it is in its
essence a very powerful professional tool.
Microsoft introduced Microsoft Expression on September 16, 2005 at
Microsoft's Professional Developers Conference in Los Angeles.
Microsoft Expression Studio 3 was released on July 22, 2009, This release brings all products in the suite to version 3, with significant improvements especially targeting Silverlight 3. Expression Media is no longer a part of package, while all other products have been significantly improved and enriched. On June 7, 2010, Expression Studio 4 was released. Expression Studio 4 is a free upgrade for licensed Expression Studio 3 users, but only for retail copies.
Even if you have an older FrontPage version on your computer, it
will still work great and you will be able to make website pages. As
a former Head Start teacher, I have always believed people learn
best by doing, so instead of trying to give any tutorials on how to
use the program, it is easiest just to site down and see how far you
can get. You will find a variety of tutorials online that can walk
you through any problems you may have when working with this website
designer program. You can also find some books on the subject in our
bookstore.Microsoft may not be the first name that comes to mind
when it comes to digital design. With its rollout of Expression
software, however, the company is vying to win over users of
Adobe Dreamweaver and other tools such as Namo WebEditor. The
$299 Expression Web, which replaces
FrontPage, is the Web design application in Microsoft's
new lineup.
To run Expression Web, you should have Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1
or newer, or the new Windows Vista. Make sure to check the ReadMe section of
Microsoft's Web site before installation, as you may have to add Microsoft .NET
Framework 2.0 and uninstall any beta versions of Microsoft Office 2007.
Microsoft Expression Web design software
supports XHTML, XML, CSS, and W3C accessibility standards;
integrates with Expression Studio and Visual Studio. The downside is
that Microsoft Expression Web lacks FrontPage's help for design
beginners, is somewhat expensive if you don't have it already with
your Word package, offers limited tech support, and supports Windows
only.
If you are considering creating or even being able to edit your your
own website, Expressions is a great option. Remember you will
still need a domain name, and a web hosting site to publish your
website after you create it. |
